THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT, A BETTER GROW

From preparing your monotub to maintaining the right fruiting conditions, find answers to common questions about setting up and managing your mushroom growing environment.

01 What is a mushroom monotub, and how does it work?

A monotub is a reusable growing container designed to provide a controlled environment for mushroom cultivation. It typically holds a mixture of colonised grain spawn and bulk substrate, allowing the mycelium to colonise before fruiting. Adjustable ventilation helps manage fresh air exchange and humidity as the mushrooms develop.

02 What is included with the MushPro MonoTub – Container Only?

The MushPro MonoTub – Container Only provides the growing container without grain spawn or bulk substrate. It's ideal for growers who already have their growing materials or prefer to build their own setup. For a complete solution, our MushPro MonoTub Mushroom Grow Kit includes the container and essential growing materials.

03 What do I need to grow mushrooms in a monotub?

You'll need fully colonised grain spawn, a suitable bulk substrate and a clean working environment. We recommend pairing your monotub with our colonised grain spawn and CVG substrate to create a suitable growing medium. Additional accessories can help with monitoring conditions and maintaining your setup.

04 How do I choose the right monotub size?

The right size depends on your available growing space and the amount of spawn and substrate you plan to use. Our MushPro MonoTub is available in Regular (38 × 26 × 20 cm) and Large (57.5 × 36 × 24 cm). A smaller monotub may be more manageable for beginners, while a larger container provides additional space for bigger grows.

05 How do I control humidity and airflow inside a monotub?

Maintaining the right balance of humidity and fresh air exchange is essential for healthy mushroom development. Monotubs help retain moisture, while adjustable vents allow airflow to be regulated during fruiting. Avoid excessive ventilation that could dry out the substrate, and monitor conditions according to your mushroom species.

06 When should I open the air vents on my monotub?

For the MushPro MonoTub, the recommended approach is to allow the grain spawn and substrate mixture to colonise before opening the adjustable vents to introduce fruiting conditions. The timing depends on colonisation progress and the mushroom species being cultivated.

07 What is the difference between a monotub and a mushroom grow kit?

A monotub is a growing container that typically requires you to prepare your own spawn and substrate mixture. Mushroom grow kits, on the other hand, often include prepared growing materials and may require less setup. Monotubs are ideal for growers who want greater involvement and control over the cultivation process.

08 Can I clean and reuse my monotub for multiple grows?

Yes. Reusable monotubs can be used for multiple growing cycles when properly maintained. After each harvest cycle, remove the spent substrate, wash the container thoroughly and disinfect it using a suitable cleaning product. Allow it to dry before preparing your next grow to help reduce contamination risks.
