STEWART ESSENTIALS PROPAGATOR GUIDE
The Stewart 52 cm Essentials Electric Propagator is a simple, no-fuss heated unit that creates a warm, sheltered space for your mushroom grow kits while they’re incubating.
Inside, a sealed 22-watt heating element gives off gentle, steady warmth, while the rigid clear lid keeps the heat and moisture in.
Getting Set Up
1. Find a stable, level surface for your propagator, somewhere away from direct sun and draughts.
2. If you want a little extra humidity, you can place a shallow container of water inside. Just make sure it’s stable so it can’t tip over.
3. Give the unit a quick clean, plug it in, and let it warm up for a couple of hours. You’ll notice a gentle heat building inside.
Colonisation Stage
1. When colonising your grow kits, place them in a single layer so air can move around them freely.
2. A small digital thermometer inside will help you keep track of the temperature.
3. Keep the vents closed during incubation. Mushrooms don’t need bright light at this point, so a dim room is perfect.
Fruiting Stage
1. You can also use the Stewart propagator for fruiting, as long as the room temperature and light levels are right. Open the vents fully, and if the air feels a bit stale, prop the lid open slightly for better airflow.

2. Mushrooms need both humidity and oxygen when fruiting. Mist the inside walls once or twice a day, but avoid soaking the substrate.
3. Place the propagator where it will get indirect daylight, or add a low-intensity LED light on a 12-hour cycle. If your room is already warm enough, you can unplug the heater and just use the propagator as a protective fruiting chamber.
Tips for Best Results
The fixed heating works best in a stable indoor environment. If you want more control, you can pair it with a plug-in thermostat.
Keep an eye on both temperature and airflow, and avoid placing it somewhere too hot, too much heat can damage the mycelium.
With the right setup, this unit can be an effective tool for both colonisation and fruiting your mushrooms.
